Please help support our own members, displaced by Katrina.

My dear brothers and sisters of LPL:

I am writing today to personally appeal to each of you to help with the effort to assist the victims of the Katrina disaster in a very special way.  As a matter of fact, the individual board members have already donated generously to help out our dear friends and LPL members, Bill Hedel/Tom Loesch and Ron Sikora/Mark Cairns.  Both couples have been dedicated members of LPL for many years prior to their move to New Orleans in the past 8 or 9 years, and have always kept close ties to their LPL / Chicago family.  Bill Hedel is one of the founding members of LPL and has been a dedicated supporter and tireless worker for our club up until their move to NOLA.  This summer Ron & Mark shipped beads & decorations to us as a long-distance contribution to this year's Mardi Gras-themed Rafting Trip.  In August 2002, they all made all made a special trip to Chicago to help us celebrate our 25th Anniversary.

Presently both couples are fine;  Ron and Mark evacuated to Houston, TX, and avoided the storm.  Bill and Tom stayed behind and weathered the storm, only to discover that no one was coming to rescue them or even restore order in the days that followed.  They were finally removed from a makeshift shelter in their church this past Saturday the 3rd... almost a week after the disaster.  They had to be removed by armed military guards due to the gang and criminal activity in their area. The good news is that both couples are safe now; however, they will have to totally rebuild their lives. They can't return to the homes they once knew for an undisclosed period of time, if at all.  I am asking for each of you to help out in some way and do your share.  The board has decided to collect money for these two couples and give it to them directly, instead of the Red Cross or other charitable organizations. We (the LPL board) feel that we can 'help our own' in this way.  PLEASE, if at all possible, donate to this very worthy cause.  No funds will be taken from the LPL treasury for this effort; we are relying on the generosity of our membership (which has always been remarkable!) to help our very dear friends.  Please give your donations to a board member at the bowling alley or mail your checks, payable to LPL, to LPL, PMB 278, 3712 N. Broadway, Chicago, IL 60613.  (Please clearly mark them "New Orleans") If you have any questions, please feel free to email the main LPL mailbox, or call me at 773 477-5998.

THANK YOU ALL, in advance for your generosity.  I know you will not disappoint our family members in this time of need.

Sincerely,

Felix Quintiliani
LPL Secretary
